Garden Ornaments Trio B - Echinacea, Cow Parsley Bird Drinker and Poppy Seed Head

This collection of three ceramic garden ornaments, inspired by an echinacea, cow parsley and poppy seed head, create a beautiful display among a flower bed, adding interest throughout the year. As perennials fade away in winter, these ceramic seed heads and flowers remain unchanged, providing a stunning pice of art for your garden that looks like it belongs there, helpfully marking the position of dormant plants so you won’t accidentally plant over them!

My ceramic ornaments are frost proof, and are designed to be left outside all year round. My in-laws in Scotland have been enjoying their garden ornaments since 2016, and I’ve conducted my own porosity and frost tests.

Each of my designs is inspired by a plant in nature, but are not botanically correct imitations! I am drawn to their textures and shapes and these inform my artistic interpretation. I use a range of different tools to add texture and create my own stamps to impress into the soft clay.

Positioning the ornaments is simple, the steel rods can be pushed or hammered (using a wooden block to protect the metal) into the ground at different depths. Simply slide the ceramic topper onto the metal stake, you can wiggle the rod into the slot. Some people like to move their sculptures closer to the house in winter so they can still see them from a window to continue to enjoy them when they are spending less time in their garden.

When I apply the pale turquoise-green glaze, the un-glazed areas show a warm, toasty orange halo effect from the nearby glaze during firing, which adds another element of interest and depth to the pieces.

Due to the nature of glazing each piece by hand, there are exciting variations in the bronze and green glazes, also influenced by how they melt in the kiln. Shapes, patterns and textures will be slightly different each time due to their hand made nature. Every sculpture is one of a kind, perfectly imperfect just like nature!

I use natural colours that compliment, rather than distract from the plants in your garden borders. They invite you to notice and appreciate the beauty of your garden and its plants throughout the year.

Length of metal rods: 100cm these will rust beautifully over time.

Delivery and Packaging: I charge £7 for postage and packaging. I aim to dispatch items twice a week. Garden ornaments are packaged in a box within a second box to avoid any breakages. The metal rods will be packaged separately in a triangular tube. I re-use old newspapers for padding (donated by my lovely customers), and all the packaging is recyclable.
